What does a Match mean?

A Match means that more than one person entered the same perpetrator’s unique identifiers (e.g. Facebook URL, email address, phone number) into Callisto.

If we find a Match, that does not guarantee that a perpetrator is a repeat offender, only that two or more people have identified the same perpetrator in Callisto.

If we don’t find a Match, that does not guarantee that your perpetrator hasn’t victimized other people. It only means that other people from your school have not entered them into your school’s Callisto Matching system.

Why should I use Matching?

Repeat perpetrators commit 90% of sexual assaults.

For many people who experience sexual assault, knowing that their perpetrator is a serial offender is a big factor in deciding whether to report. In many cases, the fact that there was more than one allegation against the same individual also makes it more likely that people reporting will be believed.

By entering Matching, you can learn whether your perpetrator is a serial offender. You also help your school know too, along with other people who experienced sexual misconduct from the same perpetrator.

Even if you have already reported and you feel like entering Matching doesn’t benefit you, it can still help others.

What perpetrator information does Callisto ask for?

We ask for your perpetrator’s name, along with a series of “unique identifiers”, including phone number, email, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram accounts. We use the unique identifiers to detect a Match, and not the perpetrator’s name (since multiple people can have the same name).

If you do not have information such as phone number, email, or social media accounts for your perpetrator, you will not be able to use Match at this time.

What information about me does Callisto ask for?

Callisto asks for your name, your school email address, you preferred contact email address, and your preferred contact phone number. Your school will only be sent your information if a Match has been found.

What info will be sent to my school if there is a Match?

If a Match is found, your school will receive: your name, your school email, your contact information, the perpetrator’s name, and the perpetrator’s unique identifiers (e.g. phone number) that you entered into Callisto. Your school will receive the same information about the person you Matched with at the same time.

Will I be notified if there is a Match?

If a Match is found, we will send you an email to notify you that there has been a Match, at the contact email address you provide. We will not tell you who you Matched with.

Will my perpetrator find out that I entered them into Matching?

Callisto will NEVER contact your perpetrator or alert them in any way. Ever. Your school might notify your perpetrator if a Match is found and the school is conducting an investigation. Read more about your school’s policies here.

Will I be connected to the person I Matched with if a Match occurs?

Callisto will not connect you to the person you Matched with. The other person in your Match will not see your name and you will not see their name. Your school might connect you with the person you Matched with if a Match is found. Read more about your school’s policies here.

Can I use Callisto anonymously?

To use Matching, you will have to enter your school email address and some contact information into Callisto. Your school can only see this information if there is a Match. If there is a Match, the person you Matched with will not see your name or contact information. For more information on how Callisto handles your data and privacy, please see our Privacy Policy.

Can I change my mind?

If a Match hasn’t been found yet, you can log into your account and remove your entry from Matching. If a Match has been found, you will not be able to remove your entry from Matching. On June 30, any entry data you have entered into this website will be deleted.

What other options do I have?

In addition to entering Matching, you can report to your school, report to the police, and/or create a record of your incident. You can also explore other options like getting a forensic exam, medical treatment, or emotional support. You might also want to talk to an attorney about your options.
